The William Herschel Museum (or Herschel Museum of Astronomy) is run by the Bath Preservation Trust and pays homage to the Hershel Family of astronomers. The family had a huge impact on astronomy in the late 18th century with the discovery of Uranus being made from this very building by William Herschel in 1781. This museum on New King Street is so well respected in fact that its patron is no less than Sir Patrick Moore.

The museum is only about a five-minute walk from the city centre making it an easy detour for those who have an interest in such fields. This is just one of many museums in the city with others commemorating local figures such as Jane Austen and the less well-known Sally Lunn.
