Swallow Street itself is not that much to look at but stand at the York Street end of it and treat yourself to one of the best views in Bath. Without even turning your head you have the Roman Baths ahead of you, with the splendid arch across the road, backed by a distant view of the golden stones of the Abbey. When the Christmas markets are on, York Street becomes very lively and Swallow Street is a good place to step aside away from the crowd.
The street names in Bath are a fascinating area for study and looking along Swallow Street you do wonder whether perhaps it was once a place where swallows nested under the tall eaves of the houses, or whether it perhaps had more coffee shops or pubs than elsewhere!
